Microsoft Hyper V Support for MESSAGEmanager IP FAX
MESSAGEmanager IP FAX software is now supported in Hyper V virtualization environments. Hyper V, the Microsoft virtualization platform, is available as an integral feature of Windows Server 2008 (R2). MESSAGEmanager FAX thrives in a virtual machine environment since it has no hardware dependencies.
As a software-only solution MESSAGEmanager can be deployed and administered in any virtual machine environment. Operating in a virtual environment saves time and money as there are no requirements to purchase and install fax boards, replace defective ones, or deal with hardware problems. Installation in a virtual environment can be quickly rolled out to users regardless of location or environment. As MESSAGEmanager is Hyper V ready it integrates quickly into backup, data replication and disaster recovery scenarios.

New Integrated SAP Gateway
SAP has announced they intend to remove SAPconnect RFC from future versions of Netweaver, commencing with Netweaver 7.2, due for release in mid 2010.
SAPconnect allows the connection of external communication components to the R/3 System. As the standard interface for external communication, SAPconnect supports telecommunication services such as Fax, pagers, Internet and X.400, as well as sending to printers and between several R/3 Systems. MESSAGEmanager FAX SAP Connector uses SAPconnect to enable R3 to communicate with MESSAGEmanager FAX Server.
MESSAGEmanager is currently updating the interface to replace SAPconnect RFC with SMTP, which is scheduled to ship with R1 in early 2010.
The new integrated SAP Gateway will:
- Provide easier setup/administration (no requirements regarding routing of SMTP notifications to the SAP client)
- Provide common tool for fax connectivity to all SAP versions.
- Pass the notification to the SAP originator with an optional email notification to the originator’s mailbox.

MESSAGEmanager FAX interoperates with Nortel
MESSAGEmanager Solutions client, Lyttelton Port of Christchurch (LPC), is New Zealand’s largest coal facility, a busy shipping port that handles over 250,000 containers and 1,200 ships each year.
LPC staff rely on fax for critical procurement and purchase orders, stock purchases and daily shipping forecasts. The organisation moved to virtualised servers, but still had a physical fax server with fax card which was adding to cable clutter and stopping them truly unifying their communications.
Importantly, in addition to integrating with Exchange, Outlook and Lawson ERP Systems, any updated fax solution needed to interoperate with LPC’s Nortel CS1000 Telephony PBX.
LPC chose MESSAGEmanager’s 100% software IP FAX Server, familiar with its reliability and performance as they had previously installed an earlier version.
MESSAGEmanager Solutions' technical team performed extensive interoperability testing on the Nortel CS1000 before clearing it for install. The successful testing and install enabled LPC to preserve their investment in their telephony system, while ensuring it was further leveraged by the unification and integration of fax with all other systems.
LPC say the change has allowed them to “decommission old fax hardware, roll up fax into our virtual environment and eliminate the need to maintain a separate physical fax server.”
This has lead to a reduction in ongoing costs and reduced TCO and technical support time.
