implements MESSAGEmanager solution for improved communication

The University of Sydney Union, which looks after with
the non-academic areas of university life, has installed
MESSAGEmanager Exchange Voice Mail, an expandable voicemail
solution to improve the efficiency of communication
for over 200 Union employees.
MESSAGEmanager is based on Intel hardware and VoiceXML
software, which enables all voice mail and fax messages
to be delivered directly to the employees mailbox and
can generate outbound messages, or reply to messages
received. As the campus is on a WiFi network, employees
can also access their messages through handheld devices.

"MESSAGEmanager
works with Outlook Web Access and Microsoft Exchange
to provide us with a service an employee can use at
work or home, or wherever they have access to a Web
browser," said Lloyd Martin, IT Manager,
Sydney University Union.

"One of the major benefits of this system is the
ability to have faxes sent directly to employee's inboxes
as this ensures that faxes do not get lost on shared
fax machines," said Martin. "As the
fax is in the employee's inbox and not floating around
the office in hard copy format, employees are now assured
that the faxes they receive will remain completely confidential."
"Another advantage is the use of the SMS serverwhich
is a great way of notifying our members - who have opted
in to the service - of daily special deals and last
minute changes in programs.
"We also needed to make sure the messaging system
did not have proprietary software which needed to be
installed on employee computers. MESSAGEmanager is
perfect as its standards-based meaning operating costs
are kept down and business processes are maintained.
We were also able to use our current Exchange Server
instead of having a dedicated server."
The University of Sydney Union deals with the non-academic
areas of the university, offering services to students
including entertainment and activities, clubs and societies,
development programmes, publications, art gallery, graduation
services and student support services.
